Rhett Manley ’19 is known around the school for his exuberant charisma as well as his frequent anecdotes. Just two days before the kickoff JV football game against a strong Dallas Christian team, however, he suffered a broken bone in his lower leg effectively ending his season. He has adapted to the situation well he says, and will still remain optimistic about the year. He said that his foremost goal for the young talent on JV football is to continue Cistercian’s stout winning tradition against the out matched TACA Storm squad. This would be his second year on JV and he says he will miss controlling the practices at quarterback and putting pressure on the defense. It is safe to say that although the Hawk’s ankles may have been spared from this shifty athlete, they have lost a valuable piece. Rhett does not see this as a total loss but has found the silver lining in that he noticed a stark incline in his arm size from using crutches. It is not like Rhett to dedicate all his emotional energy to just one endeavor though; he remains very confident in a variety of teams and school events. Though he must know deep down it is a preposterous statement, he claims the NY Jets are likely to make a Super Bowl run. That was all he had to say regarding sports but hinted at possibly making an interesting statement at homecoming this year.
