Hello Cistercian Student Body,
Imagine a future where the Cistercian student body thrives, where there are new and exciting activities for everyone to enjoy, and where the smallest guy can make the biggest impact. This feeling is the audacity of hope in each of us. My name is Omah Egedigwe and I am your Student Body President for the 2024-2025 school year. I want your ideas, aspirations, and goals for the year, whether that’s within your individual Forms, for Homecoming, mixers, sports, and beyond. My primary goals this year are to make the student body more united and to increase the level of participation in student sports, clubs, and activities. These goals will make this school year as fun as possible for all members of the Student Body. Joining me in this venture are Vice President Marc Maalouf, Secretary George Saliga, Treasurer Stuart Walton, and Class Representatives Jack Landis, Matthew Brown, Charlie Kane, James Hays, Matt Albano, and Josh Albano. But we need your help! During this early period of the school year, it is easy to stay engaged and active in the school community with so many football games, afterparties, tournaments, and dances that bless us in the Fall. However, as the year progresses, we start to lose some of the magic and energy that the early part of the year has. This year, with your help, and by adding new tournaments, events, and fostering a deeper sense of community within the school, I hope that we can change that narrative as we move forward into the future.
But before I get into the specifics for the events for the year, I want to address the underclassmen. Freshmen and Sophomores, many times you may feel that your voice is not heard, either by the upperclassmen or by the administration. I am here to tell you all that you are heard by me and that I am committed to the proposals that I declared in the spring last semester. First, I vow to fight for those extra 2 days of Spirit Week that underclassmen have not been able to participate in years past. At the end of the day, it is up to the administration, but, as president, I am committed to fighting for your voice and for all your interests. The second way that I will fight for you, the underclassmen, is that I will do everything in my power to make sure that the spring mixer is not combined this year. While I still think that the spring mixer last year was a success, I think to make the experience for the underclassmen as enjoyable as possible, it would be necessary to separate the two. Finally, all underclassmen must realize that they are the future leaders of this student body. Listen, learn, and take what you need from the upperclassmen to be successful in the years to come. Be creative, open, and get involved in the clubs, sports, and initiatives that make Cistercian special. In addition, Upperclassmen, lead by example and always remember that there is someone looking up to you. I urge all upperclassmen to understand that they have a chance to leave a legacy and mark on this school that will last many years to come.
Moving to school events, I hope you all enjoyed the recent debut of the Hawk Mascot for the whole upper school. Don’t worry about him, he will be back and better than ever soon, particularly in the winter season. Our first couple tournaments are also coming up and the Council is hoping to add more tournaments this year, including bringing back 3v3 basketball, adding a Spikeball tournament, and continuing faculty vs faculty competition of some kind. In addition, we will be continuing the volleyball and futsal tournaments and the fan-favorite annual chess and ping pong tournaments. There will be a week-long scavenger hunt soon in the fall and we encourage all Forms to participate. Also look out for a new Teacher v. Student event soon where you will be able to nominate and vote for your favorite classmates and teachers to participate in a competition for all the glory. Finally, as we enter another busy Homecoming season, I ask for your support and the support of our parents so that we can make this year’s dance another success.
I am so happy and excited to lead this student body, and I cannot wait to get to work with you all about the events. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you have a great idea of what can be implemented to improve your high school experience. The Student Council Hotline number is 214-536-9199. I really encourage you guys to make the most of this year and thrive as leaders of the school.
Thank You,
Your President Ezinna “Omah” Egedigwe
