The Massive Mistake at the Medley
March 15, 2016
On February 13, Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas was the site of what many sports critics are calling the worst officiating call of all time. “Not even the Packers-Seahawks was worse”, said a senior who wishes to remain anonymous. The 200 Medley Relay comprised of Brian Jiang ’19, Brown water polo commit Galen Hu ’16, All American Alvin Jiang ’17, and senior Will Odom ’16. Alvin Jiang was just finishing his segment when, ALLEGEDLY, Odom left early. The AquaHawks consequentially were disqualified, lost 14 points which would’ve given them 2nd place overall in SPC, and Brown commit Hu was ineligible to receive All-SPC honors.
The conference does not accept photographic evidence and refused to acknowledge the protest of the erroneous call. “I’ve been swimming for 14 years and have never seen such a missed call”, Odom exclaimed. Situations like this reminded everyone that sports can be cruel, referees are human, and hard work doesn’t always pay off. Despite the circumstances, our boys once again showed the community that the tradition of success in Cistercian Swimming is alive and well.

Swimmers are Stoics: we move on and resolve to do better.
The upcoming season — now only weeks ago — will feature many of the fine swimmers from last year’s roster: Alvin Jiang, Ned Pfeiffer, The Hu Phenomenon, and THE WATER POLO BRIGADE! — and this only scratches the surface of the water (mixed metaphor – sorry!)
Perhaps a set of insightful interviews – short, thoughtful, pithy pieces — might be published to whet the appetites of those waiting for Aquatic Armageddon!
We will burn the opposition in the pool! (2nd mixed metaphor)
