The past three meets we’ve had on cross country have been wildly successful, placing third and first in each of them. The first meet was the W.T. White invitational at Brookhaven Community College on September 23rd, which we ran great in (as we do every year). Varsity placed 3rd, with Alex Smith (’21) and Max (’19) Rogers medaling, as well as Bradyn Smith (’19), Ethan Ramchandani (’21), and JB Hudnall (’21) coming in a few spots away from medals. JV placed 2nd, with Joe Dunikoski (’20), Stephon Salhab (’20), Mateo Ramirez (’21), and Michael Jaquez (’18) medaling. The course was relatively tiring, but will definitely be the most flat course we run all year.
The next meet was the Ben Robertson invitational in Mesquite. Other than the fact that we all had to drive 30-45 minutes to this meet, it was by far our best meet of the season, so far at least. The varsity race was small compared to JV, but the teams were elite. John LeSage (‘20) was in the overall lead for the first mile and a half, then Alex Smith (‘21) took over for the rest of the race, but only to lose the position on the last 50-100 meters or so. Varsity placed first overall with Alex Smith placing 3rd, John LeSage placing 4th, Connor Blend (‘18) placing 5th, Max Rogers (‘19) placing 8th, and JB Hudnall placing 9th, and Ethan Ramchandani placing 12th.
And lastly, the most recent meet we’ve had was the Gary Horner invitational, where Varsity placed second and JV placed first. On Varsity, Alex Smith and Max Rogers led the pack. While on JV, Ben Shamai (‘21), Mateo Ramirez, and Jacob Rombs (‘20) led the pack. This meet was by far the most flat we’ve had all year, but was also very tiring as it was around 60 degrees outside. But again, Varsity and JV placed very well. That’s as much to say, we’ve been on a roll, smashing everyone we face except those huge schools who probably recruit to fix their damaged self esteem.
Again, these last meets have been our best, and they’re only precursors to the SPC meet. Practices, although tough, have been going great, and we’re looking forward to our next few meets and we hope to see supporters there, too.
