Some athletes spent the Christmas/New Years in mountains Colorado shredding on the slopes or soaking up the sun (and exposing themselves to melanoma) on the beach; the Hawks, however, trained rigorously over the break, whether it be on the court, field, or pool. The Aquahawks work on their technique with their eyes on dethroning St. Mark’s, the SPC champions of last year (Hawks coming in 2nd) and many before. The basketball team participated in a tournament at the Prince of Peace School featuring 4A, 5A, and TAPPS level schools, playing well in their 5 games. The soccer team’s sole contest over the break was to be a scrimmage against rival St. Mark’s, but out of town players and scheduling conflicts prevented the match from being played. Despite missing key players on the squad, many alumni of the school and team laced up their boots and came out to relive their glory days, while showing current players and varsity hopefuls a thing or two. As 2016 begins, a new season starts for each team, as conference games roll around the corner and decide which teams will make trip to Houston for the SPC Tournament.
