Washington, D.C. — On June 27, the Supreme Court repealed a Texas law regarding abortion.  The 5-3 vote took down the law requiring all abortion clinics in Texas to adhere to more regulations, including upgrading clinical facilities to hospital standards.

Many advocates of the pro choice movement claim that this law, which would have shut down most Texan abortion clinics, was a strategical move by the pro life movement.  They claim that the law did not do much to help women, or increase the safety of the situation, but that, rather, it simply increased the difficulty for women seeking an abortion.

Many advocates of the pro life movement claim that this law was intended to and succeeded in greatly improving the safety of women seeking an abortion.  Some claim that this law was needed to ensure that the clinics prioritized the patient before profit.

“Abortion claims the lives of unborn children, and too often endangers their mothers, as well,” said USCCB spokeswoman Deirdre McQuade. “This ruling contradicts the consensus among medical groups that such measures protect women’s lives,” as reported by The Catholic World Report.

This definitive ruling on such a controversial topic probably limits the amount of large scale pro life laws in the near future, and marks a huge victory for the pro choice campaign.  But do not expect this to diminish the enthusiasm and determination of the pro life movement.
